Sign of the Cross

Greeting

Jesus is risen! He is alive!
Let us then feast with joy in the presence of the Lord.
And may this joy be with you! R./ And also with you.

Introduction

Option A
This is a day for celebration.
This is the day when Christ our Brother
broke the chains of death and rose in triumph from the grave.
He did this, not just for himself, but for all of us.
He wants us to share in his victory over sin and death.
Let us pause to reflect on this great mystery. (pause)

Lord Jesus, through your resurrection
you free us from our sins.
Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus,
through your resurrection you free us
from the power of death.
Christ, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, through your resurrection you enable us to live
in the freedom of the children of God.
Lord, have mercy.

Option B
Jesus is risen! He is alive!
This is the day the Lord has made!
Let us be glad and rejoice!
We can celebrate Easter with deep joy…
the same joy which transformed the dejected friends
of Jesus and transformed their lives
when they realized that he had overcome death
and would live with them forever.

Lord Jesus, you are the Christ, the Paschal Lamb,
who has been sacrificed.
Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you have been raised by the Father to new life.
Christ, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you raise the dead to new life in the Spirit.
Lord, have mercy.

Opening Prayer

For Morning and Noon Masses
Option A

God of undying life,
by your mighty hand
you raised up Jesus from the grave
and appointed him judge of the living and the dead.
Confer on all the baptized
the power flowing from his resurrection,
that we may proclaim near and far
the pardon and peace you give us.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
first-born from the dead,
who lives with you now and always
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

Option B
Lord God, this is the day that you have made!
Raising Jesus from the dead,
and raising us with him,
you have fashioned for yourself a new people,
washed in the waters of baptism,
sealed with the gift of the Spirit,
and invited to the banquet of the Lamb!

Prepare our hearts, Lord,
to celebrate this Easter festival with great joy.

We ask this through your Son,
our Passover and our Peace,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

Evening [When gospel from Luke 24: 13-35 is read]

O God of wonders,
you made this day for joy and gladness.
Let the risen Lord abide with us this evening,
opening the Scriptures to us
and breaking bread in our midst.

Set our hearts aflame and open our eyes,
that we may see in his sufferings
all that the prophets foretold
and recognize him at this table,
the Christ now entered into glory,
who lives with you now and always
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

N.B. Presiders please note that at evening Masses
the Gospel of the 3rd Sunday of Easter,

Cycle A (the Emmaus Story) may be used.

Liturgy of the Word

Homily

Renewal of Baptismal Promises

Priest:
Dear friends
Through the paschal mystery
we have been buried with Christ in baptism,
so that we may rise with him to a new life.
Now that we have completed our Lenten observance,
let us renew the promises we made in baptism
when we rejected Satan and his works,
and promised to serve God faithfully
in his holy Catholic Church.
And so:

(The assembly's responses are flashed on the screen.)
.

Priest:    Do you reject Satan?

All:         Yes, I do.

Priest:    And all his works?

All:         Yes, I do.

Priest:    And all his empty promises?

All:         Yes, I do.

Then the priest continues:

Priest:    Do you believe that everything created by God is good
and that the whole universe is a song of praise to God?

All:         Yes, I do believe.

Priest:    Do you believe that we human beings are made intelligent and
free in the image and likeness of God?

All:         Yes, I do believe.

Priest:    Do you believe that we are responsible for protecting, caring for,
and enhancing the earth and all of God's creation?

All:         Yes, I do believe.

Priest:    Do you believe that God sent His beloved Son Jesus, to show us
the depth of His love, and reveal to us how we become fully human and alive - as he was - in and through our loving and forgiving one another?

All:         Yes, I do believe.

Priest:    Do you believe that the Church is the community of disciples of
Jesus, united in faith, hope and love for the life of the world?

All:         Yes, I do believe.

Priest:    Do you believe that the Spirit of God is alive and active in our world
and in all its peoples, challenging us to bring unity where there
is division, healing where there is brokenness, calling us from
selfishness and sin in order to renew the face of the earth?

All:         Yes, I do believe.

SPRINKLING

Priest:    God has given us new birth through the waters of Baptism
and the outpouring of the Spirit.

Comentator:  Please make the 'Sign of the Cross' while you
                              are being sprinkled with water.

Presider and Acolyte - with container - go down the center aisle and sprinkle the people who make the 'Sign of the Cross' at the appropriate time. Lay Assistants go to their designated areas. The Choir, who have been humming in the background, now gradually raise the volume and sing the words of 'NEW LIFE'. Other suitable songs like e.g. ISANG PANANAMPALATAYA may be added.

Since the 'Profession of Faith' has been incorporated in the earlier Rite, the CREDO can be omitted.

The PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL (because of the length of earlier Ceremonies) may be omitted.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

P        Let us lift up our hearts to the Father who, through Baptism,
has made us his children. With confidence, let us address
our petitions to him as we pray.

             With confidence we pray:

CM     Lord, hear us in your love. (Please repeat)

    1. For all Christians throughout the world: (pause)
that they may experience the joy of Christ's
victory over death and sin. We pray in faith:
    2. For our civil authorities; (pause)
that they may die to their personal and narrow interests
and work for the common good,
so that our nation can prosper
and there will be no more poor among us.
      We pray in faith:
    3. For all of us gathered here today: (pause)
that the joy experienced by Mary at the sight of her risen Son
may deepen our faith in the resurrection
and fill our lives with the peace that Easter brings.
      We pray in faith:
    4. May our beloved dead enter the glory of heaven
where Christ, the firstborn from the dead, has preceded us.
      We pray in faith:

[The Presider may add a Petition that is local / relevant]

P     God our Father, the power of this day drives away all evil,
       washes away all guilt,
       restores lost innocence,
brings joy to those who mourn,
       casts out hatred,
       and brings peace.
Grant that all we have asked for
may be granted in the mighty name of Jesus,
       the Risen Lord. AMEN.

Prayer over the Gifts

Option A
All holy God,
You invite us to stand around your throne and worship you,
for our robes have been washed clean in the blood of the Lamb.
Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed,
and is risen from the dead.
Bless us now, in this time and place,
and join us to him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

Option B
Creator of awesome beauty and abundance,
your saving plan has brought us
to the glory of this day.
You gather us around this table
to celebrate the Easter meal of Jesus, your Son.
We set before you this bread and wine,
gifts of your holy people.
Bring to perfection
the saving work you have begun in us.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Invitation to the Lord’s Prayer

Option A
As sons and daughters of the Father
let us pray to him the prayer
taught us by our risen Lord. Our Father ...

United by baptism with Jesus, our risen Lord,
let the joy of the Spirit cry out in us
as we pray the words of Jesus: Our Father ...

Deliver us Lord

Deliver us, Lord, from every evil:
from darkness, from sin;
keep us faithful to our alleluias,
as we wait, joyful in hope,
for the full, final coming
of our risen and triumphant Lord, Jesus Christ.

Option B
Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
and grant us in our day
the peace which our Lord Jesus brought to the apostles
on Easter Day.

and strengthen us to face the trials of life,
as we await in hope the coming in glory of the Risen Lord,
our Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace

Option A
Lord Jesus, Christ,
on that first Easter Day
while the disciples were gathered behind closed doors;
- gathered in fear and shame -
you came and stood among them and said,
"Peace be with you".
Give us the same joy that you gave to them
and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever. AMEN.

May the joy and peace of the Risen Lord
be with you always.

Option B
Lord Jesus Christ,
on the evening of that first Easter
you appeared to your frightened and disheartened disciples
and said to them:
'Peace be with you.'
Then you showed them your wounded hands and side,
and they were filled with joy.
Grant that we who have heard the message of Easter,
may enjoy the peace and unity of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever. AMEN.

May the peace which Christ brought to his apostles
be with you always.

Exchange of Peace
Option A.
Let us now offer the Master's greeting to one another.

Option B.
Today in Russian Churches Christians greet one another like this.
One person says: Christ is Risen!
And the neighbor replies: Christ is truly risen!
Let this be our greeting to one another today.

in the breaking of bread." [Luke 24:30-31]
