Sign of the Cross

Greeting

The grace and peace of God our Father,
who raised Jesus from the dead,
be always with you.

Introduction and Litany of Praise

We gather today to keep holy the memory of Jesus.
We keep our pledge not to forget his death but to remember it in love.
In his death is the hope of all who die.
Today we also keep holy the death of all the faithful departed
and pray for their everlasting peace. (pause)

Lord Jesus, you raise the dead to life in the Spirit:
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

You bring pardon and peace to the sinner:
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd,
leading us into everlasting life:
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Opening Prayer

God of the living and the dead,
we believe that you are a God of a love --
a love that is stronger than death
since your Son Jesus Christ,
born as one of us,
destroyed death for ever.
Let all our departed brothers and sisters
live in the security of your love
and enjoy your peace.
All this we ask through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

Liturgy of the Word

Homily

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

P       God did not create us for death and darkness,
but to enjoy the light and life of his presence.
Let us pray for our departed brothers and sisters,
that all may come to the peace of his kingdom.

             With confidence we pray:

CM     Lord of life, hear your people. (Please repeat)

    1. For all who have died as a result of violence and war. (pause)
May they find peace in the kingdom of our Father.
      We pray to the Lord:
    2. For those for whom nobody mourns, (pause)
that they may now enjoy the friendship of the saints in heaven.
      We pray to the Lord:
    3. For those who had to suffer much in life from sickness,
      injustice or poverty; (pause)
that their sorrow may be turned into joy
in the embrace of the Lord's loving care.
      We pray to the Lord
      :
    4. For all our relatives and friends who have died: (pause)
that the God in whom they hoped will look on them with love
and welcome them to the banquet he has prepared for them:

[The Presider may add a Petition that is local / relevant]

P    God, our Father, hear our prayers on behalf of the living and the dead.
We ask this in the name of the One - who by his life death and resurrection
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life
       - Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Prayer over the Gifts

Lord,
we are united in this sacrament
by the love of Jesus Christ.
Accept these gifts
and receive our departed brothers and sisters
into the glory of your Son,
who is Lord for ever and ever
. AMEN.

Invitation to the Lord’s Prayer

Option A
Because our hope is not deceptive,
let us pray to the Father
for the coming of his kingdom:
Our Father ...

Option B
Let us pray in the words of Jesus
to the God of life and hope as we say:
Our Father ...

Deliver us Lord

Option A
Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
and grant your peace to those who have died
in the hope of living in your everlasting peace.
Free us from the fear of death,
as we wait in joyful hope
for our resurrection and the fullness of life
with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Option B
Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
and from the fear of death.
Grant us the peace and hope
of knowing that Jesus is the resurrection and the life,
the one who will raise us up on the last day,
for he is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace

Option A
Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles:
"Peace I leave with you;
my peace I give to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled,
and do not be afraid."
Grant us the peace of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever. AMEN

Option B
Lord, Jesus Christ, you said:
'God is not the God of the dead, but of the living;
for to him all of them are alive.'
Look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom,
where you live for ever and ever. AMEN

Exchange of Peace
Everything else will pass away but God's love will remain forever.
Let us give one another a sign of peace.

Optional Prayer to accompany the ‘Breaking of Bread’

P      Our Father gives us the bread from heaven
and the saving cup brimming with life.
May this bread broken and cup poured
link us together in charity and peace
so that we may be living signs
       of the kingdom of God.

A     LAMB OF GOD.....

Invitation to Communion

This is the BREAD come down from heaven; [holds up BREAD]
whoever eats of it will never die.
This is the CUP of eternal life: [holds up CUP]
whoever drinks of it will live for ever.

Lord, I am not worthy…

Prayer after Communion

Option A
God of the living,
you want us to live even beyond death.
You have shown us that life is meaningful,
that death is not the end
but a completely new beginning.
Strengthened by the Eucharist we have just received
may we share our hope with those for whom life makes little sense.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Option B
God of mercy and compassion,
may the death and resurrection of Christ
which we celebrate in this Eucharist
bring the faithful departed to the peace of your eternal home.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Solemn Blessing

In his great love,
the God of all consolation gave us the gift of life.
May he bless you with faith
in the resurrection of his Son,
and with the hope of rising to new life.
AMEN

To us who are alive
may he grant forgiveness,
and to all who have died
a place of light and peace.
AMEN.

As you believe that Jesus rose from the dead,
so may you live with him for ever. AMEN.

May almighty God bless you,
+ the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

Dismissal

The Mass is ended.
Go in the peace of Christ.
Thanks be to God.
