Liturgy Guide
2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

Greeting [based on 2nd Reading]

The grace and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all.

Introduction & Litany of Praise

In today's Liturgy we hear
how Jesus fulfills the longings of God's people.
He is the light of the nations;
he brings salvation and he takes away sin.
Let us ask that our sins be taken away
as we prepare once more to receive our Savior.

(pause)

Lord Jesus, you are the Lamb of God
who takes away our sins:
Lord, have mercy.

You heal us, save us and raise us to new life:
Christ, have mercy.

In your death and resurrection
you free us from the bonds of death:

Lord, have mercy.

Gloria

Opening Prayer

Merciful God,
you sent your Son, the spotless Lamb,
to take upon himself the sin of the world.
Make our lives holy,
that your Church may bear witness
to your purpose of reconciling all things in Christ,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

P         God has called us in Jesus Christ to be the light of the world.
In need of his mercy and salvation we place our petitions before him:

             With confidence we pray:

CM     Christ Jesus, hear our prayer. (Please repeat)

    1. That the church may be a faithful servant,
bringing the good news of salvation to the ends of the earth.
      We pray:
    2. That we who have been baptized in water and sealed with the Spirit
may testify to the presence of God in our midst by lives of grace and peace.
      We pray:
    3. That our friends, who in baptism died with Christ
and have now completed their earthly journey,
may share in the power and glory of his resurrection.
      We pray:
    4. For all those who help others rebuild their lives devastated
by tragedy and disaster; may their kindness and goodwill
      be an inspiration to all.
      We pray:

[The Presider may add a Petition that is local / relevant]

P      Father, we make all our prayers to you,
through Christ, the sinless One who takes away our sins,
and who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

Prayer over the Gifts

God of endless ages,
here in these signs of bread and wine
your Son Jesus keeps his promise
to be always with us.
May he live and grow in us
so that by the power of the Holy Spirit
we can help him bring light to the nations.
All this we ask through Christ our Lord. AMEN

Invitation to the Lord’s Prayer

Jesus the Lamb of God, the Chosen One,
shares his Sonship with us when he invites us
to pray his prayer: Our Father ...

Deliver us Lord

Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
and grant in our day the peace of Christ,
which is the work of your Spirit.
In your mercy keep us free from sin
and protect us from all anxiety
while the Spirit leads us in joyful hope
toward the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace

Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles:
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you."
Send your Spirit of Love on our world,
to gather people of every race, language, and way of life,
into the peace and unity of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever.

Exchange of Peace
We are all chosen by God to be members of his family.
So let us offer each other a sign of peace.

Optional Prayer to accompany the ‘Breaking of Bread’

P      As we share this bread,
        we proclaim our willingness
to build a community of love,
        to be the holy people
that God calls us to be:
A     LAMB OF GOD.....

Invitation to Communion

Option A
"Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
(John 1:29)
"Blessed are those who are invited
to the marriage supper of the Lamb."

Option B
We receive Jesus not because we are worthy
but because we are sinners who need his help.
So we listen again to the words of John the Baptist:
'This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world….'

Lord, I am not worthy…

Post Communion Prayer

Most Gracious God,
pour out your Spirit upon us;
enkindle within us the fire of your Divine Love
so that we can be re-created.
Inspire us with a sense of mission and commitment
so that we, who have been baptized in the one Spirit,
may, like the first disciples,
be ready to share the gifts of the same Spirit,
serving the local community and the Church.
And we do this because "Jesus is Lord" for ever and ever. AMEN.

Solemn Blessing

The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
has formed you and called you
to live with him, in the company of the saints.

May God grace you always with his Spirit of peace. AMEN.

May the Lord enlighten you so that you can share your light with others. AMEN.

May God fill you with his life and hope. AMEN.

And may the blessing of our loving God,
+ the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
come down upon you and remain with you for ever.  AMEN.

Dismissal

Eager to answer Jesus' call
and to proclaim the good news of the kingdom,
go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
