Introduction and
Litany of Praise
Option
A
Last Sunday, we saw how Jesus gave bread to the people in the wilderness. But when they came back the following day for more he said to them, 'Do not work for the food that perishes.'
We are here today because we know that we need the food that endures for eternal life. (pause)
Jesus our Savior, you are the Bread of life:
Lord, have mercy.
Jesus our Redeemer, you fill us with good things:
Christ, have mercy.
Jesus our Life, in you we have all we need:
Lord, have mercy.
Option
B
We hunger for many things.
However, only God can satisfy our deepest hungers.
Let us prepare ourselves
to receive the nourishment God wants to give us. (pause)
Lord, you nourish our minds with the bread of life:
Lord, have mercy.
You nourish our spirits with the bread of hope:
Christ, have mercy.
You nourish our hearts with the bread of love:
Lord, have mercy.

Lord, giver of lasting life,
satisfy our hunger through Christ, the Bread of Life,
and quench our thirst with your gift of faith,
that we may no longer work for food that perishes,

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.
Option
B
O God, whose gift to our ancestors was manna in the wilderness,
we believe in the One whom you have sent,
on whom you have set your seal.
Let there be no lack of bread
on the tables of any of your children,
and stir up within us also a longing for your word,
that we may be able to satisfy that hunger for truth
that you have placed within every human heart.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.
