Liturgy Guide
2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

Sign of the Cross

Greeting

Grace and peace to you
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus.
May the Spirit of New Life be always with you.

Introduction & Litany of Praise

Option A
In the Gospel today we will hear Jesus say to his first two disciples,
'Come and see.'
They accepted his invitation and had an encounter
with him which changed their lives.

Each time we celebrate the Eucharist we have an opportunity
to encounter the Lord.
Let us prepare ourselves now for this.
(Pause)

Lord, Jesus, you call us to follow you.
Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you call us to be one people.
Christ have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you call us to do the will of your Father.
Lord, have mercy.

Option B
We often fail to hear the voice of God or our neighbor when they call us. (Pause)

Through the prophets you spoke of the promise of salvation:
Lord, have mercy.

Through the Gospel you call us to faith and a change of heart:
Christ have mercy.

Through the Spirit of Jesus you continue to call us to do God's will:
Lord, have mercy.

Opening Prayer

Option A
O God, you always call us by our name.
Make our ears attentive to your voice,
our spirits eager to respond,
that, having heard you speak through Jesus,
we may draw others to be his disciples.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever
. AMEN.

Option B
Creator God,
you reveal the signs of your presence among us
in the liturgy,
and in the lives of our sisters and brothers.
Speak now, Lord, for your servants are listening.
Stir up our hearts so that,
having heard you speak through Jesus,
we may draw others to be his disciples.
We make this prayer Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
AMEN.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

P        Gathered at prayer in the temple of the Lord,
let us offer our intercessions to the God who has called us by name..

           Our response is:

CM       Hear our prayer. (Please repeat)

    1. That the Leaders of nations may hear in the voices of their people God's own voice summoning the world to work for a future of justice and peace. Lord in your mercy:

    2. That those who are seeking meaning and purpose for their lives may "come and see" and find in Christ the teacher for whom they search. . Lord in your mercy:

    3. That we may hear Christ's call in the voices of the poor, the sick, and the elderly who cry out for help. Lord in your mercy:

    4. For those for whom Christ is only a name: (pause)
that they may get to know and encounter him in us his followers..
      Lord in your mercy:

    5. For ourselves: (pause)
that in answering the call of Jesus we will always respect our bodies as the dwelling-place of the Spirit of God.
      Lord in your mercy:

[The Presider may add a Petition that is local / relevant]

P      We call upon you, Father, in the name of Jesus, confident that you will hear us. Like Samuel, we listen for your voice inviting us to do your will in all things. This we ask through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Prayer over the Gifts

Lord and Giver of life,
with these gifts of bread and wine
we bring before you our good intentions –
our desire to please you in all we do.
Give us the strength to answer the call
of Jesus Christ our Lord
AMEN.

Invitation to the Lord’s Prayer

Let us hear the voice of Christ praying with us as we say::

Our Father ...

Deliver us Lord

Deliver us Lord, we pray, from every evil,
and grant us peace in our days
that, sustained by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
as we await the blessed hope -
the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace

Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your Apostles,
"Come and see.
"Come, follow me."
Look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever.

Exchange of Peace
Let us now extend the hand of friendship and peace.

Optional Prayer to accompany the ‘Breaking of Bread’

P      When we break this bread and share this wine
we declare that we regard all people
        as our sisters and brothers.
        With God as our Father
we are members of one family.

A     LAMB OF GOD.....

Invitation to Communion

"Look, here is the Lamb of God."
This is Jesus who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are we who are invited to the banquet of the Lamb.

Lord, I am not worthy…

Prayer after Communion

Lord God,
today your Son has spoken to us
and has called us to be his disciples.
By the strength of the food he has given us
may we have the courage to follow him
on the road which leads to you.
Grant this through the same Christ our Lord.AMEN.

Solemn Blessing

May you always be able to find where Christ lives,
and, like the apostles, stay with him. AMEN.
May you always be aware of his love for you. AMEN.
And may you know that because of this love
you are of infinite value. AMEN.
And may God always bless you,
+ the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

Dismissal

Option A
Go now in the peace of the Lord
and, like Andrew, bring others to meet Jesus.

Option B
Listening for God's voice,
and eager to do God's will,
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
