The Meditation Proper

Here we be with the Spirit who dwells within us.

According to John Main this is how to meditate:

"You just sit still and upright. Close your eyes lightly. Sit relaxed but alert. Silently, interiorly begin to say a single word. We recommend the prayer phrase 'MARANATHA.' Recite it as four syllables of equal length. Listen to it as you say it gently but continuously. Do not think or imagine anything-spiritual or otherwise. Thoughts and images will likely come, but let them pass. Just keep returning your attention-with humility and simplicity-to saying your word, from the beginning to the end of your meditation. Meditate each morning and evening for between 20 and 30 minutes."

A Pathway to Life

“The best word I can find to describe this book is integration. In these reflections on the gospel readings for year A, B, and C of the liturgical cycle, Fr. Pierse integrates the richness of the word of God with experiences and stories from life in the community. He shows how through silence, the word can bear fruit in service and sacrament.” (R. J. Cardinal Vidal)
