When I go for a medical checkup and look at the X-ray film, it does not make any sense to me. But, for the trained eyes of my doctor, every shade in it makes sense and he detects what is wrong with my health. When I go for a psychological examination and look at the many graphs my tests have resulted in, none of it makes sense to me. But to the trained eyes of my psychologist, they reveal my personality pattern with its strengths and weaknesses.
Such is the case with a person who has the trained eyes of faith in God. Noah had such sensitive inner eyes that could discern what was in store for the world and prepare accordingly while his peers went about their normal lives. So did Lot, when his contemporaries saw nothing dangerous in the present or the future. Similarly, when those who have the eyes of faith look at the beauty of the created world, they see the hand of God at work. And those without the gift of faith lack the depth perception to see beyond what is before their eyes. We shall pray for inner eyes trained in the art and science of faith.
