In the synagogue at Capernaum, Jesus pronounces a magnificent speech, following the rules of Hebrew sermons, citing part of a biblical episode, specifically, the story of the manna in the wilderness (Is 16:13-15). He contrasts the manna, the heavenly gift designed to satisfy the body and the bread of life offered by him, which gives life to the full. Once again we are puzzled with the way Jesus speaks which includes the formula of a divine title: I am the bread of life. In the succeeding Gospel: readings, Jesus will reveal to us the real meaning of this bread.
